14 DAY TRIAL // The Humane Society of the United States is happy to announce that as many as 60 dogs have been rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Hertford County, North Carolina in the aftermath of a raid carried out by law enforcement officials.
On its website, the Society details that the rescued dogs all belonged to the same breed, i.e. they were all Australian shepherds. Of the 60 dogs that were removed from this property in Hertford County, 13 were puppies.
By the looks of it, the breeder who was supposed to be looking after these 60 dogs agreed to willingly part with them and cease operations at their property in North Carolina after law enforcement officials had a chat with them about animal welfare.
“We are grateful that the breeder made the humane choice to surrender these dogs so that they may have a chance at a happy life,” Kim Alboum, North Carolina state director for the Humane Society of the United States, said in a statement.
“Sadly, these situations are not uncommon in our state. That is why we sincerely hope our lawmakers will pass a law this session to crack down on puppy mills,” she added.
Now that they have been rescued, the dogs are to receive appropriate medical care and might one day be put up for adoption.
