This past Monday, the hopes and dreams of countless UFO enthusiasts were shattered by a documentary which revealed that a 6-inch (15.24 cm) alien-looking creature was by no means of an extra-terrestrial origin.

Quite the contrary: DNA tests have shown that Ata, as this peculiar creature is now referred to by the scientific community, is in fact human.

For those unfamiliar with Ata's story, it need be said that this so-called 6-inch alien was found in Chile's Atacama Desert about ten years ago.

Since then, researchers have been busy carrying out tests and trying to figure out why it was that Ata looked like nothing they had ever seen before.

Meanwhile, others have taken the time to spread the news that these mummified remains belonged to none other than an alien that crash-landed on our planet at some point in the past.

Huffington Post quotes Garry Nolan, currently working as director of stem cell biology at Stanford University's School of Medicine in California, who commented on his decision to analyze Ata's DNA as follows:

“My interest, frankly, is to disprove that it's anything unusual or anything paranormal. I would like to prove that this is human and just an interesting mutation.”

“The sequence that we got from the mitochondria tells us with extremely high confidence that the mother was an indigenous Indian from the Chilean area. The other thing that immediately fell out of the analysis is that it's male. It probably died in the last century, if I were to make a guess,” Garry Nolan summed up his and his colleagues' findings.

The specialist also said that, at the time of his death, Ata was about 7 years old.

Presently, Garry Nolan intends to keep investigating Ata's anatomical peculiarities and later on publish a more detailed account of his findings.

“Sirius,” as the documentary detailing the findings of this research into Ata's DNA is named, premiered in Hollywood this past April 22.
