This past Tuesday afternoon, Papua New Guinea was hit by a 6.4 earthquake. The shake reportedly struck just off the country's coastline.

This Tuesday's 6.4M shake is the second major seismic event to hit this country in less than a week. More precisely, it was only a few days back when the region got hit by a 6.8 magnitude shake.

Despite its magnitude, specialists believe that the earthquake was by no means strong enough to trigger a tsunami. Because of this, no warnings have been issued.

“Based on all available data, a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat to Hawaii. Repeat, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” reads a statement released by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The Inquisitr says that the shake took place at a depth of 21 miles, at 1:14 p.m. local time. No major damage has thus far been reported.
