Reviewers accuse wrong camera placement on the nano, but praise options and menus

The folks at NewTeeVee have decided to put Apple’s new nano to the test and see exactly how good of a video recorder it is, compared with another low-end (but popular) camcorder, the Flip. While there are some obvious differences between video quality, there are plenty good sides and down-sides to both.

NewTeeVee is a site devoted to online video, and other technologies that are reinventing the video experience. Three of the site’s contributors have decided to review the nano from a video perspective. One of them notes that Apple has inconveniently placed the camera on the bottom side of the nano, making it difficult to hold the device in a comfortable position while shooting videos.

Softpedia note

Apple was likely forced to place the camera on the lower side of the device because of the nano’s thinness. With the screen and battery placed back to back on the upper side of the nano, there was simply not enough room for a camera there as well.

However, the cool effects and intuitive menus seem to make up for the awkward camera placing, the aforementioned contributor suggests. Skipping other (less important) observations, another one of NewTeeVee’s contributors comes with a comparison video of the new iPod nano and the much thicker Flip Ultra SD (which can be watched below). Clearly, nano-video isn’t as good as Flip-video (and the same goes for sound, according to him), but Apple's device does a fairly good job, nonetheless.

We should also keep in mind that the nano also looks after its figure, while the Flip Ultra SD looks like a fast-food fan. Adding that the nano is actually an iPod first (and a pretty good one at that), Apple has done more than everyone hoped for with the nano.
