If you're one of those people who cannot even stand the thought of having others touch their eyeballs, let alone stick needles in them, then you should probably stop reading this article right about now. Unless curiosity has already gotten the best of you and you simply can't quit.

Here's what this piece of news is all about: not too long ago, a man living in New York, US, and working at Madison Square Garden had his left eyeball tattooed. Oddly enough, he did not do it to get people's attention.

On the contrary, 58-year-old William Watson only subjected himself to this procedure because he wanted to look normal and be able to go about his daily routine without having strangers stare at him whenever he ventured in public.

What this rare cosmetic procedure was all about

Tattoos might have been controversial some time ago, but people are finally getting used to them. Still, it's not all that often that one hears about tattoo enthusiasts who decided to ink their eyeballs.

As mentioned, 58-year-old William Watson did not tattoo his left iris looking to have some fun or mark a memory. He did it to cover up the scars of an accident that he suffered as a child and that forever changed the appearance of his eye.

According to Daily Mail, William Watson got hit in the face with a ball when he was a young boy. As a result, his left iris turned white and cloudy, and never went back to its normal appearance. The man decided to correct this problem by having artist CJ Pento ink an iris on his eye.

The 58-year-old was awake during the entire procedure. Thus, he was only given a local anesthetic. Still, he claims that he felt no pain whatsoever. In fact, he is very happy that he had the guts to go through with this procedure.

“I can't believe how much better I look on the outside and how much better I feel inside,” William Watson said in a statement. Furthermore, “Dr Chynn gave me a way to normality I didn't even know existed six months ago. I feel much more confidence in myself.”

How the eye tattoo does not a cure make

As you've probably figured out, the 58-year-old's eye is still damaged. Thus, all the eyeball tattoo did was hide William Watson's anatomical quirk from the world. Then again, this is exactly what this man was hoping to achieve, so he has nothing to complain about.

It is understood that, before inking William Watson, artist CJ Pento practiced on grapes. Once the hour-long procedure was over, it took the 58-year-old man a few weeks to make a full recovery and introduce the world to his peculiar tattoo.
