LG will formally launch the 55EA8800 display at IFA 2013

This week will mostly be overflowing with announcements from IFA 2013, or at least the next few days will be. Right now, though, the show hasn't started yet, which means that most of the “news” is actually leaks and pre-release reports.

LG, Samsung, Intel, ASUS, Acer, HP, Lenovo, and all their competitors, or rather those watching out for them, are the source of many of these reports, like for the Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet.

Now, it's LG's 55-inch 55EA8800 OLED display that we are looking at, or rather a press photo of it.

The Gallery OLED TV is actually being lauded by LG in its press release (yes, LG has officially launched it already), saying that it is “unmatched” in terms of picture quality.

It even made it display an image of a museum painting to prove its claim.

"Our Gallery OLED TV comprises the perfect blend of subtle beauty, unmatched picture quality and immersive sound," said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company.

"Challenging the status quo, this beautifully designed and engineered product is a clear example of our ability to think beyond the ordinary and provide consumers with a differentiated experience."

The company didn't say what resolution the TV has, but we assume it's Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). If it were any other, LG would have said so no doubt.

What LG did bother to specify was the 2.2-channel "Canvas Speakers," the faux art mat behind the display itself, and the “Galley Mode” that shows high-resolution artwork (from painters like Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin).

Basically, since OLED won't sell itself, especially at the comparatively (to LCD) high price, LG has to include as many extra assets as possible, especially with competition from Samsung.

Sadly, the company didn't say what price the 55EA8800 would bear, only that it would start selling in Germany first (since that's where IFA 2013 is taking place).
