For those unaware, each year's March 13 marks Thailand's National Elephant Day. Apparently, this celebration was established with the sole purpose of raising awareness with respect to how this species is likely to soon become extinct because of poaching activities and habitat loss.

In order to honor their elephants, Thailand decided to “invite” 52 such animals to an all-you-can-eat buffet, which was set up in the Pattaya resort, Chonburi province.

The animals were presented with countless fruits and allowed to eat as much as they wished, Daily Mail says.

As was to be expected, the elephants did not shy away from taking advantage of the opportunity they were presented with.

Prior to their being allowed to take part in the feast, the elephants were blessed with holy water by local spiritual leaders.
