Odder things have happened in showbiz, but this May-December marriage could also count among them. Actor Doug Hutchinson, 51, tied the knot in Vegas with his 16-year-old fiancée, beauty queen and aspiring singer Courtney Alexis Stodden.Reports of this started making the rounds some hours ago, prompting the newlyweds to step forward with a statement: their unlikely union is confirmation that love knows no age, they say.
The actor, better known for his role in “The Green Mile,” but who has also made appearances in “Lost” and “24,” tells
E! Online that he and his much younger bride are aware of the age difference.
At the same time, they have no plans to hide it because that’s just one of the things that make their romance so special.
“We’re aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial. But we’re very much in love and want to get the message out there that true love can be ageless,” they say in a joint statement.
This comes short on the heels of reports saying that Courtney is looking to get media attention by getting into an unlikely union.
The 16-year-old bride is a beauty queen who is now working on launching a career in music: she could boost her public profile by marrying a much older (even if D-list) actor, word in the blogosphere has it.
Nevertheless, the two insists that’s not the case: they’re in love and they want the world to know that by getting married.
According to US law, any person under 18 can’t marry unless one of their parents signs off on it, so this must mean that at least one of Courtney’s parents also saw the relationship as they’re trying to paint it in the press.
One must also note that
voices in the blogosphere claim the entire thing is a PR stunt to get coverage for Courtney and her music career, starting from the fact that she’s 16: she’s older than that, it is being said.
