Google Chrome OS app will be discontinued as well

Things are getting worse for Windows Phone platform as more and more developers discontinue their applications and focus their resources to developing new software for Android and iOS.

We have already reported about several Windows Phone apps that have been either removed or the discontinued, but now it looks like another popular application received the same treatment.

According to WindowsCentral, 500px developers confirmed they would discontinue support for its Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Google Chrome OS from end of April.

500px developers have already informed their users about the move and suggest that they use their website instead. Here is an excerpt from an email that 500px devs have sent to the app's users:

“As the 500px community grows, we're faced with the ongoing challenge of reevaluating our product lineup. This ensures our team can focus on the products that will enable and reward visual creativity for the most people at the highest standards of quality.

“With that in mind, I'm writing to share that our Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Google Chrome OS applications will be discontinued at the end of April. Members using these devices are encouraged to use our website at 500px.com.”

The application is still available in Windows Phone Store

For the time being, the Windows Phone application is still available for download from the store, but the Windows 8 version has been removed and will probably never be listed again.

Since 500px thinks that Windows Phone is not worth their time and efforts, it makes sense to believe that many other developers might think the same.

The question now is which developer will announce they are dropping Windows Phone support, not whether or not this will happen again in the near future.

We expect more apps to be removed from Windows Phone Store, even if Microsoft is fully dedicated to the mobile platform and has no intention to halt the development.
