Several reports show the same figures

Everyone was expecting to see people running in Apple stores desperate to get their own iPhone and they were right. The first weekend since the release of Apple's phone has proved to be a profitable one, as 500,000 such devices have been sold.

It's only three days since the iPhone has been released, on the 29th of June and reports already show huge sales numbers for this device. It proves to be excellent news for Apple, as some people seriously questioned the success that the launch of this handset might have.

Analyst Blackfriars has been monitoring stores, made some calculus and reached an estimate number for the iPhones which have been sold. "The bottom line: some analysts claimed that the iPhone launch would be a failure if Apple failed to sell 100,000 iPhones during the first weekend. Based upon the limited data we have, we believe that number was exceeded in just the first two to three hours. Blackfriars' prediction is that Apple will sell 500,000 iPhones this weekend, and based upon limited sales rates reported, that number now looks quite achievable. The only question is whether the demand and iPhone supply is great enough that they might push past the million unit mark this weekend", he commented on his blog.

Another study confirms this approximation. Moreover, it looks like 95 percent of all iPhone buyers have chosen the 8GB version and that almost half of them were new subscribers for AT&T services. This research has been conducted on more than 200 iPhone buyers.

The fact that most of the sold iPhones were the more expensive USD 600 version might turn into a huge problem for Apple if the rumors of this model having some hardware problems confirm.

Still, it turns out to be quite impressive to see that neither the small price, nor the huge data plans that AT&T charges for this device have discouraged Apple fans. If the iPhone continues to sell as good as it has since its release, Apple's wildest thoughts will come true.
