Microsoft is working to make Windows 10 available to as many PCs as possible and all these efforts are quickly paying off, as the new operating system is said to be installed on 50 million computers already.

There are some reports online claiming that Windows 10 adoption is on the rise, as Microsoft made the new product available to plenty of users this week, with the rollout to continue in waves in the coming weeks and months.

It's not exactly clear how much time the company needs to complete the release of Windows 10, but Microsoft previously promised that everyone should get the update in just a few weeks, hinting that the new OS should be on all PCs by September.

1 billion devices

Right now, September seems like an accurate deadline, but a number of computers hit by compatibility issues, be they hardware or software-related, could still have to wait a little bit longer to get the new operating system.

In the meantime, Microsoft also continues work on the first major update for Windows 10, which according to sources should arrive in October. This update is projected to bring lots of improvements to the platform, including extension support for the Edge browser, as well as a bunch of new goodies for built-in apps.

Keep in mind that Microsoft is yet to confirm these numbers, but given the fact that the rollout of the operating system continues, it's no wonder that more people install it.

Microsoft has an ambitious goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017 and although it's still very far from achieving it, the company still has more than 12 months to improve adoption figures.

Windows 10 Mobile will also contribute to achieving this goal, as its debut is planned for October 2015 and it will be offered as a free upgrade for all Windows Phone devices.
