Get an Xbox One plus Assassin's Creed Unity and Black, not to mention other freebies and goodies on the cheap

Microsoft confirms that its promotional 50 USD (41 EUR) discount offered on the Xbox One Assassin's Creed bundles is set to expire at the end of the week and advises fans who have yet to do it to visit their local retailers to take advantage of some great deals.

The Xbox One launched back in November of last year and it became clear quite fast that its rival – Sony's PS4 – was dominating it in terms of sales, both worldwide and in its home territory of the U.S.

After a repositioning in terms of strategy and the elimination of the Kinect sensor from the regular retail bundle, which led to a smaller price, the console finally stood a chance against the PS4. For the winter holiday season, Microsoft introduced at the beginning of November a couple of special bundles in the U.S. that boasted a 50 USD (41 EUR) price cut.

This immediately led to some great sales figures and allowed the Xbox One to become the bestselling console in the U.S. in November, stopping the almost one-year victory streak of the PS4.

The special discount is ending soon

Now, the winter holidays are coming to an end, alongside 2014, so Microsoft reminds fans via the blog of its Community Manager, Larry Hryb, that its promotion will also end on January 3. As such, those who still want to get a bundle for either 349 USD (287 EUR) without Kinect, or 449 USD (370 EUR) with a Kinect, should act fast.

"The holidays are almost over, but there’s still time to take advantage of the special, limited-time pricing of $50 off the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity Bundle and Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity Bundle with Kinect," Microsoft says.

Many stores also have extra benefits and goodies

Most major retailers are still running the discount, from Amazon to Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart, Toys 'R Us, and even Microsoft's own retail stores. What's more, many of them have added bonuses and freebies on top of the regular discount.

Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, or Target add their own 50 USD gift cards on top of the discount, while Toys 'R Us brings a free Xbox One controller.

Microsoft also emphasizes that new Xbox One owners can enjoy a variety of exclusives, such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sunset Overdrive, or Forza Horizon 2, not to mention third-party titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
