One can only assume that, when you happen to be the author of a best-selling novels trilogy, you are doing fairly well, at least financially-wise. Not to beat about the bush, chances are E L James is not one to worry about making ends meet.

What's interesting is that, following the success of her “50 Shades of Grey” trilogy, the author has decided to spend quite a lot of money on an environmentally friendly ride. The Tesla Model S electric sedan, to be more precise.

Media reports say that, this past weekend, E L James became one of the first Tesla Model S owners in the United Kingdom. What's more, word has it she was offered the key to her new ride by Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk. Business Green tells us that the eco-friendly premium electric sedan the British author will from now on get to drive around in has a starting price of £50,280 (€61,907 / $84,431) in the United Kingdom.

Not to grind your gears or anything of the sorts, but this £50,280 starting price for the Tesla Model S green-oriented four-wheeler includes a fairly generous £5,000 (approximately €6,156 / $8,396) government grant, the same source informs.

This might sound like a whole lot of money to pay for a car just for the sake of improving on one's ecological footprint. Hence, it need be said that the vehicle has some features other than eco-friendliness that make it a head-turner.

Thus, the Tesla Model S is argued to be able to cover 312 miles (502 kilometers) on a single charge, and go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96.5 kilometers per hour) in 4.2 seconds. When inspiration strikes and E L James is in dire need to someplace to write, this will prove most useful.

“It's super-fast and it's super green – it ticks all the boxes. It's beautiful car,” the “50 Shades of Grey” author has told the press in a recent interview. In case anyone was wondering, the car she settled with is red, and rumor has it the vehicle came with all the toys included.

Up until now, Tesla has only built one supercharger station in the United Kingdom. However, the company promises that it will keep investing in such facilities, and that it will not be long until folks will be able to travel across the country using nothing but superchargers to power their cars.

“We expect customers to be able to travel the length of the UK for free using our Superchargers within the next 18 months,” Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has said in a statement.
