Rap singer 50 Cent filled a lawsuit in federal court Friday against a Philadelphia car dealership over advertisements that he said used his trademarked name without permission.
The 29-year-old musician describes himself in the lawsuit as "a hugely popular and extremely successful hip-hop music artist ... known for his good looks, `gangsta' image and hard knocks success story."
The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million from Gary Barbera Enterprises, the car dealer who used the slogan "Just Like 50 Says!" and the rapper's picture in a print advertisement for a Dodge Magnum.
"[Gary Barbera Enterprises'] misappropriation of [50 Cent's] name, likeness and trademark in its advertising was unlawful and unauthorized, and upon information and belief, is likely to have caused confusion in the marketplace among consumers and among potential marketing and promotional partners of 50 Cent," the suit reads, "all of whom are likely to believe that the Barbera advertising and car dealership are authorized or sponsored by 50 Cent," reports EOnline.
