About one month ago, Acer announced a 24-inch full-HD display, classified as being a "world's first". We have not seen that on the market yet, but Acer says it has another wild beast in development, the 24-inch Acer G24 LCD monitor with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. No word on where it will be available
or how much we will have to pay for it, but we can rest assure that it won't come cheap.

Here is what Acer says about its new product, "Staying at the forefront of technology, the G24 includes Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM), and is the world's first LCD monitor supporting up to 50,000:1 for outstanding contrast ratio. Acer ACM produces dramatic improvement in gradation and detail, especially for dimmer and brighter scenes, resulting in stunning picture quality. Acer ACM also enables the G24 to use less power and save energy."

The 50,000:1 contrast ratio seems astonishing, and there are only few devices that have the same specifications, Samsung's A750 LCD TVs line, including the 52-inch LN52A750. Acer did not reveal any specific information on the new 50,000:1 ratio, but it is supposed to be rather dynamic than static contrast ratio. The new G24 should be capable of displaying both deep black levels as well as bright, crisp images, assuming that it rises to its specs, and combined with the announced 400-nit (cd/m2) brightness.

The native resolution of the widescreen display is 1,920x1200, and a 2ms gray-to-gray response time is reported. An HDMI input is featured by the G24, but the company did not state for sure whether the display is HDCP compliant or not. But we may assume it is, since the press release mentions Blu-ray players and set-top boxes.

The design enjoys an "extreme contrast of orange-black colors and sleek contours." The "deep metallic copper" name for the obvious orange color announced for the Predator has been finally dropped by Acer. All that is left for us to do is sit back and wait for Acer to finally release the two 'beasts'. They won't come at low prices for sure, but if they manage to live up to their specs, then they'll deserve every penny.
