Alex Nash missed his classmate's birthday party back in December, was handed the invoice towards the end of last week

In what might be the weirdest news of the week, a young boy's father and another one's mother are now threatening to go to court to settle a seriously heated argument over a birthday party. That's right, it looks like disagreements over kids' parties are now a good enough reason to lawyer up.

Apparently, the entire conundrum started back in last year's December, when 5-year-old Alex Nash from Plymouth, UK, failed to attend one of his classmate's birthday party at a local ski park because he instead spent the day with his grandparents.

Fast forward a few weeks, and come January 15, the 5-year-old boy was handed an invoice saying that he owed his classmate ₤15.95 ($24.00 / €21) for having missed the December celebration. According to Alex's dad, the child simply came home with the bill in his backpack.

It's not like he did it on purpose

The boy's parents, identified as Derek Nash and Tanya Walsh, insist that their son did not miss his classmate's birthday party at the Plymouth Ski and Snowboard Center because he did not feel like it or because he woke up in the morning and decided that he wanted to act like a total prick that day.

As mentioned, Derek Nash and Tanya Walsh say that, on the day of the now highly controversial party, the boy visited his grandparents. They further argue that these plans predated the party. “We asked Alex what he wanted to do. He chose to be with his grandparents,” the child's father said in an interview.

When asked why they did not bother to announce that their son would not be attending the birthday party, his parents argued that they had no idea how to contact his classmate's parents. Hence, the family had no choice but to apologize via telepathy and mind their own business.

Possibly the wackiest invoice ever

The invoice that 5-year-old Alex Nash came home with this past January 5, a photo of which is available below, was handed to him by one of his teachers on behalf of his classmate's parents. It says that the boy must pay a “Childs Party No Show Fee” of ₤15.95 ($24.00 / €21).

At first, the boy's parents assumed that the bill was a practical joke. It was only when Derek Nash paid a visit to Julie Lawrence, the mother of the birthday boy, that the family realized that it was the real deal. Needless to say, Alex's parents have no intention whatsoever to pay this bill.

What's interesting is that, apparently, this bizarre argument might just make it to court. Thus, word has it that Julie Lawrence is threatening to take legal action against Alex Nash and his parents if they do not agree to pay the “Childs Party No Show Fee” sooner rather than later.

Although the invoice lists the Plymouth Ski and Snowboard Center where the birthday party was held in the delivery address, the resort insists that it had nothing whatsoever to do with this argument and that the entire conundrum is entirely the fault of the two boys' parents.
