Tattoos are a form of body art, in which inedible ink is inserted into the dermis layer of the skin, changing its pigment.

The word “tattoo” is a variation of Samoan word “tatau,” which was first mentioned by Joseph Banks, the naturalist above Captain Cook's ship, the HMS Endeavour.

"I shall now mention the way they mark themselves indelibly, each of them is so marked by their humor or disposition," Banks described in his journal.

Upon his return to Europe from Tahiti, James Cook popularized the word, as well as the practice, which he had described as comprising scaring, painting and staining.

First accounts of tattooing come from all over the world − Taiwan, Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia.

Tattoos are a great form of self-expression, as long as they are spelled correctly, and, in the examples below, correct they are not.

One man ironically misspelled "You're" on his "Dumb and tough" tattoo. A girl boasted she would prefer her actions to be ridiculous, rather than go unnoticed, and she achieved just that.

Another tried to share her belief in the fact that "Ignorance is bliss," which is probably true, unless someone calls you on the fact that you have misspelled your tattoo.
