Like all other companies that deal in PCs and consumer electronics, world-class company Dell has been developing its own tablets, of varying sizes, and it seems like the Streak, its 5-inch model, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, has finally reached the point where it can fall into the hands of customers based in the US.

Unlike solutions developed, or being developed, by rivals, Dell chose not to complicate itself with large displays for now, instead settling for a screen of 5 inches whose native resolution if of 800 x 480 pixels.

The panel also comes with touchscreen capabilities, which is, in fact, mandatory given the inherent lack of a physical keyboard.

At the heart of the mobile slate lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with a frequency of 1GHz, backed up by 512MB ROM, as well as 512MB SDRAM and even a 2 GB non-user accessible MicroSD card for system and applications files.

In addition to the built-in storage and RAM, the streak boasts a microSD card slot, GPRS, UMTS, EDGE support, 802.11b/g, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a 5 megapixel webcam.

What's more, the electronic is kept operational by a 1530 mAh battery and performs mostly every task that a mobile electronic of its size is expected to, such as SMS, MMS, e-mail, IM and, of course, playback of audio (MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, Midi, WAV) and video files (H.263 / H.264, .3GP, MPEG4, WMV).

The entire product measures 6 x 3.1 x 0.4 inches, weighs 7.7 oz and will sell for $550 without a plan, or for as low as $300 with a two-year At&T contract.

Pre-registrants will be pleased to hear that their orders will start being shipped tomorrow, whereas everyone else will have to wait until Friday at the earliest. The full specification list can be found on the official product page.
