If you follow the tech industry, you probably know that Nokia’s phone and service division got acquired by Microsoft who also happens to be in charge of the Windows Phone series development.

While Nokia’s fate proved that even the most successful companies can stumble towards the cold embrace of shadows, most of us can’t help but think fondly of all the classic handsets Nokia launched over the years.

You probably owned one or your parents certainly did, and they could doubtlessly tell you stories about these sturdy mobile phones that permanently changed the way we communicated with each other.

So in case these words made you reminisce too, we’re jumping at the opportunity to take you back in time and remind you of some of Nokia’s most iconic handsets.

Nokia 2110

Released back in 1994, the Nokia 2110 was quite basic compared to today’s standards. However, it was among the first phones to support mobile data when connected to a cellular data card.

The handset also supported functions like SMS send/receive, listed 10 dialed calls, 10 received calls and 10 missed calls.

Later, Nokia launched the 2110i which boasted bigger memory and protruding antenna knob. The phone become quite popular because it was way smaller than other devices being sold for the same price.

Nokia Communicators

Before BlackBerry's QWERTY-equipped productivity phones, there was the Nokia Communicator. The original Nokia 9000 Communicator went live in 1996 boasting a small screen numeric keypad on the outside that would open up into a super-wide display with QWERTY keypad inside.

The idea behind the Communicator is that people would get to use the device as normal phones without opening up the flip. However, in case they needed to get productive, they had the option to do so, by sliding out the big guns.

The last Nokia E90 Communicator was introduced in 2007.

Nokia 3310

The Nokia 3310 is probably one of the most popular phones the company ever produced. It was announced in 2000 and went on to sell in 126 million units worldwide.

The Finnish company released several variants of the product, including the Nokia 3315, 3320 and 3330. The phone arrived with many utilities such as a built-in calculator, Nokia network monitor, stop watch and reminder function. It also had four games: Pairs II, Space Impact, Bantumi and the widely popular Snake II.

The 3310 also allowed the sending of larger tests and offered the option of SMS Chat too.

Nokia 7650

The Nokia 7650 was launched in 2002 and is considered a smartphone. It made it to our list of iconic Nokia handsets for a number of reasons.

For starters, it was the first handset to arrive with Symbian OS (version 6.1) – a platform that would become immensely successful.

Secondly, it was also the first Nokia device to arrive with a built-in camera and paving the way towards the selfie hysteria.

The phone also bundled Bluetooth, infrared remote, a bunch of installable applications and a web browser.

Nokia N95

Nokia’s phone with a two-way sliding mechanism rolled out in 2007, with Symbian OS v.9.2. What’s impressive about this particular model is that it was extremely well feature-packed.

Back then having GPS, online mapping, MP3 player onboard, Wi-Fi and 3G support was considered revolutionary. Even when the first iPhone came out, some of these features like 3G weren't supported.

The smartphone also had a 5MP camera on the back.

Its screen was spacious and bright, but with all the effort Nokia put into building this device, consumers didn't seem to be particular taken with it. The Nokia down-fall had started.

Still, the N95 remains a very impressive piece of history.
