A recent report from Juniper Research shows that social networking services will play an important role in the continuously growing market for mobile user-generated content and, by the year 2012, the income generated by users from social networking, personal and dating content delivery services will reach $5.7 billions. The revenues from these services in 2007 are of $572 millions, so if the estimations for 2012 are correct, a 1000% growth is expected!

The report's author, Dr. Windsor Holden, said: "Even though social networking sites are in their infancy, the exponential growth experienced by a number of mobile service providers - in some cases achieved primarily through viral marketing - would seem to affirm that there is huge potential in this area. The key challenge now is for those providers to monetize that interest."

Juniper Research evaluated the present and future situation of mobile user-generated content based on case studies, interviews and analysis. Representatives of leading organizations in the mobile user generated content industry were involved in the research.

Additional information from Juniper Research's report were disclosed, showing that the number of consumers who use mobile social networking sites will probably rise, from 14 million in 2007, to about 600 million in 2012. This year, the number of downloads from mobile personal content delivery websites is of about 200 millions; in 2012 the number of downloads will increase to over 9 billions.

Currently, chat-room and mobile dating services represent 57 % of user-generated revenues, but it's estimated that until 2012 the proportion will go down to about 21 %, due to other user-generated content services that will appear and reach popularity.
