It seems that today we're traveling back in time not once, not twice, but thrice with the latest invention from jeffkobi, who turned a 5.25" Apple floppy drive into a stereo amplifier. Jeff used a Tupperware container to place the inner-workings of a Sonic Impact 5066 T-amp into the floppy drive case and attached a volume knob and in/out ports that ultimately connected to his iPod.

"Found an old 5.25" floppy drive at a thrift store for $5.99. It reminded me
of my Apple IIe childhood so I ended up buying it not knowing what I was gonna do with it. I'm a fan of anachronism ( Shameless plug: see retro hi-fi instructable) and needed a better housing for my computer stereo amplifier, so decided to combine the two."

As jeffkobi himself reveals in his Instructables post, "electrical engineering knowledge not necessary for this project," so if you're "a mechanical guy with a good understanding of 'basic' wiring" you too can use Apple Floppy case (and even some of its inner parts) for totally different use.

Sure enough, there's not a tech-based web site out there that hasn't praised Jeff's feat (given they've acknowledged it). Turning an old Apple gadget into something useful once again, be it the casing alone that's left standing, brings joy to geeks' hearts worldwide, including ours.

The same goes for this British dude who cleaned his closet and found this old-school slide viewer. Not very satisfied with Apple's idea of portable-video, "markrirwin" decided to boost up the image on his iPod nano using the viewer's big-a** lens. He didn't stop there though? Sound was also on the blue prints for the Nanoscope.

So, congrats to jeffkobi on his turning an old Apple floppy drive into an amp for his iPod (this doesn't mean it can't boost the audio on other jack-equipped devices) and we wish he got many more ideas like this, which we will gladly post in a piece like this.

Check out the steps for creating your own amp, but not before you leave a comment with us.
