Sam Adams should be ashamed of themselves for editing the Declaration of Independence

The 4th of July this year brought, like in years before, various Independence Day-themed ads, including for products like beer. One particular commercial for Sam Adams has gotten religious Americans – and Fox & Friends – quite hot under the collar.

Check out the video above to hear the arguments presented on Fox & Friends about why Sam Adams should be ashamed of themselves for editing the Declaration of Independence in the ad to leave out “endowed by their creator.”

In a statement to the network, Sam Adams argued that they, like other beer makers, have to stick to a certain set of rules when they release ads. One such rule says no religious mentions are allowed.

“We agree with that and try to adhere to these guidelines. While we understand your objection to the omission of the phrase ‘by our creator’ in other circumstances (after all, they occur in the Declaration of independence which Samuel Adams signed and helped author) we believe it would be outside our industry guidelines to invoke those religious words in a beer commercial,” Sam Adams says.

What do you think? Is there any justification for the ruckus, or is the severity of the omission an exaggeration? Let me know in the comments section.
