This is not the stable version of the distro

4MParted, a Linux distribution based on the 4MLinux and GParted, is now at version 13.1 Beta and is ready for download and testing.

Many Linux users have probably heard of 4MLinux, which is one of the smallest Linux distributions out there that also provide a full desktop experience. It's easier to build a very small Linux distro without having to deal with a desktop environment. On the other hand, a desktop environment will always add some “weight” to the OS.

The 4MLinux developer has been extending his collection of tools and distros, and 4MParted is just one of them. It's also a part of the 4MRescueKit, a much bigger Linux distro with many other tools. 4MParted was built and released only for users who wanted just something for partitioning, without all the other trimmings. It's great if you just want to make some changes to the structure of the system from the outside.

4MParted 13.1 Beta is ready for testing

Unlike the regular 4MLinux distro, 4MParted doesn't have a desktop environment and only presents users with the Gparted GUI. It's really suited to be used as a Live CD on systems that need work on partitions without having to mount them.

"4MParted is a very small live CD designed for disk partitioning. It's a part of 4MRescueKit, which in turn is one of the three main 4MLinux releases available for downloads. This version includes GParted 0.22.0, and it uses 4MLinux 13.1 as the base system," said the developer.

This is not a major release, and it's not all that different from the 13.0 branch. Just some of the packages have been upgraded and those include the new GParted and a new base.

You can download 4MParted 13.1 Beta right now from Softpedia and take it for a spin. Please keep in mind that it's not a stable release, and some problems might still be present.
