4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki‏ is informing us today about the release and immediate availability for download of the Beta development snapshot of the upcoming 4MLinux 23.0 independently-developed GNU/Linux operating system.

The 4MLinux 23.0 series entered development two weeks ago, when Zbigniew Konojacki announced the release of the 4MLinux 23.0 Beta Core edition, a barebone version which is the base of all the GNU/Linux distributions that are released under the 4MLinux umbrella. And now, 4MLinux 23.0, the main distro, gets a Beta too and switches to use GNU C Library 2.25 as default.

"4MLinux 23.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages, including a major change in the core of the system, which now uses the GNU C Library 2.25," said Zbigniew Konojacki‏ in the release announcement.

4MLinux 23.0 launches in November 2017

We also know that 4MLinux 23.0 Beta remains powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.9 kernel series, and ships with up-to-date components that you can study here. All packages included in this development release are compiled with the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) 6.2.0 compiler, and, as expected, they're designed to be compatible with the i686 (32-bit) hardware architecture.

The final release of the 4MLinux 23.0 operating system will be unveiled in November 2017 as the new stable series, and it will be supported for nine months, until July 2018. However, it would appear that 4MLinux 23.0 will become the old stable branch in March 2018 when the next major release of the GNU/Linux distribution will be unveiled. Until then, you can download the 4MLinux 23.0 Beta ISO image right now through out website if you want to take it for a spin.
