4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki informs Softpedia today about the promotion of the 4MLinux 21.0 independently-developed operating system to the stable channel.

4MLinux 21.0 has been in development since early November 2016, and only now did it hit the stable channel, which means that existing 4MLinux 20.0 users can finally upgrade their installations and receive new package versions, along with all the latest GNU/Linux technologies and a bunch of new exciting features.

Among these, there's out-of-the-box support for Windows shares, thanks to the implementation of the CIFS (Common Internet File System) file system and Samba. Most of the drivers have also been updated for AMD Radeon and Nvidia GPUs, as well as Broadcom wireless adapters.

"4MLinux now supports Windows shares (CIFS is available out of the box, while Samba client can be found on the 4MLinux installation CD)," said Zbigniew Konojacki in the release announcement. "And finally, PHP7 has been added to the 4MLinux LAMP Server."

Here's what's new in 4MLinux 21.0

Among the pre-installed applications included in the 4MLinux 21.0 release, we can mention the LibreOffice 5.3.0.3 office suite, Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1 and Chromium 56.0.2924.76 web browsers, GIMP 2.8.20 image editor, Dropbox 19.4.13 client, Skype 4.3.0.37 VoIP client, as well as the Mozilla Thunderbird 45.7.1 email and news client.
