4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki informs Softpedia today, September 18, about the release and immediate availability for download of the Beta development milestone of his upcoming 4MLinux 20.0 GNU/Linux operating system.

And it looks like he has some big plans for the final, stable release of 4MLinux 20.0, which should hit the streets on November 1, 2016, promising users that it will be a special version of his independent operating system for personal computers, which always includes the latest and most advanced software versions and GNU/Linux technologies.

"This is the 20th release, so it should be something special," says Zbigniew Konojacki in the release announcement. "And it is! The 4MLinux Live CD can now be run (and installed to a hard disk drive) on the following configurations: BIOS with 32 bit CPU, BIOS with 64 bit CPU, UEFI with 32 bit firmware, and UEFI with 64 bit firmware."

UEFI support offered for both 32- and 64-bit firmware

Last week, we reported on the availability of the Beta release of the 4MLinux 20.0 Core edition, a stripped-down version of the distribution on which 4MLinux and its sister projects are built. Therefore, you should already know that 4MLinux 20.0 comes with UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) support on both 32- and 64-bit firmware.

However, the best part of it all is that the new UEFI support is handled by the same initrd (initial ramdisk) and Linux kernel that have been used in previous versions, which means that 4MLinux remains a 32-bit operating system for both the kernel and the user land.

According to the developer, 4MLinux 20.0 promises to be the only GNU/Linux distribution to offer this kind of functionality to the Linux community, which can now get an early taste of what's coming to 4MLinux 20.0 in November by downloading the Beta Live ISO image right now via our website.
