4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki is happy to inform Softpedia today about the immediate availability of the first point release of the 4MLinux 20 stable series of his independently-developed GNU/Linux distribution.

4MLinux 20.0 was officially released a month ago, on the first day of November, and it's currently the most advanced version of the Linux-based operating system, shipping with the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel and many recent GNU/Linux technologies and Open Source software applications.

The developer usually doesn't do point releases of his 4MLinux operating system, but this time a minor maintenance update was needed for the enablement of PAE (Physical Address Extension) support, which "magically" disappeared in the 4MLinux 20.0 release, according to Zbigniew Konojacki.

"This is a minor maintenance release in the 4MLinux STABLE channel. The release ships with the Linux kernel 4.4.34, which restores PAE support that "magically" disappeared in 4MLinux 20.0," explained the developer in the release announcement for 4MLinux 20.1.

4MLinux 20.1 is an ISO respin with up-to-date components

Apart from adding PAE support, the 4MLinux 20.1 ISO respin also updates various popular programs, including but not limited to Wine, Mozilla Firefox, Double Commander, Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Mozilla Thunderbird, PeaZip, Opera, and Dropbox.

4MLinux 20.1 is now available for download from our website, but existing users, those running 4MLinux 20.0, don't need to download the new ISO image if all they want is to keep their installation up to date. 4MLinux 20.1 is here only for those who want to deploy the GNU/Linux distribution on new hardware, especially on PAE systems.

4MLinux is a semi-rolling distro, which means that you don't have to download a new ISO image to update your system. Just run the "zk update" command in your favorite terminal emulator and apply all the available updates. The next major release, 4MLinux 21.0, is currently in development and will be released next year.
