A new version of 4MLinux has been released

4MLinux, a mini Linux distribution that is focused on the 4Ms of computing, Maintenance (system rescue Live CD), Multimedia (e.g., playing video DVDs), Miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and Mystery (Linux games), has been upgraded to version 13 and is now ready for download.

4MLinux distros have always been very small, but that that has changed somewhat because the developer has chosen to include many more packages by default. In all other aspect, 4MLinux has remained pretty much the same, with the same kind of desktop and overall experience. The size of the ISO is no longer a major concern, and users will still be able to choose more specialized versions.

The same developer is also offering distros like 4MParted, Allinone Edition, and a few others. From the looks of it, he has decided to integrate all the other components, like the server, gaming, and maintenance, and multimedia under one roof, which account for the size.

4MLinux 13.0  is ready for download

"The status of the 4MLinux 13.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Major changes in the core of the system, which now uses GNU Compiler Collection 5.1.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture. Additionally, I am very happy to announce that my long work on improving the 4MLinux Desktop has been finished. 4MLinux users can now enjoy the result of this work: a unique, highly customized mixture of JWM (Joe's Window Manager), Window Maker, and PCManFM," writes the developer on his blog.

This is not a huge update, at least not on the surface, but the implementation of GCC 5.1.0 is an important step. A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement. You can download 4MLinux 13.0 right now from Softpedia. You should keep in mind that this is a Live ISO, and you can play with it before you install it. Also, if you already have 4MLinux installed, you can always upgrade.
