FreeOrion, a free, open source, turn-based space empire and galactic conquest (4X) computer game being designed and built by the FreeOrion project, that is aimed at both users and developers alike, is now at version 0.4.3.

FreeOrion might look like a complete game, but if the version number is any indicator, you should know that it's far from over. The developers think that the game still needs a lot of work and many features are still incoming.

Beside the myriad of smaller changes introduced in this version, FreeOrion 0.4.3 now comes with some pretty big features. First of all, shields are now capable of reducing damage and new shield and armor content has been implemented.

The AI has also received a few important updates and improvements, the combat log display now shows more details about the events, and the Galaxy Generation works on a completely random principle.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of changes and new features. Keep in mind that this is a development version, so you will most likely encounter bugs. Download FreeOrion 0.4.3 right now from Softpedia.
