Content in a high enough resolution won't be released this year

The 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution is one that has been used in quite a few TVs already, called UHD TVs (ultra high-definition). That doesn't mean consumers have a good reason to buy them though.

Sure, having a display with a resolution beyond that of all others comes with serious bragging rights.

Unfortunately, there's nothing else you'll get in exchange for the fortune that one of those things costs.

The reason? Simple. There isn't any TV content available for them, and even the best 3D Blu-ray movies don't come in 4K quality.

That is why, analysts believe, consumers and industries at large won't adopt 4K en masse in 2013.

As soon as it gets traction, however, those who like 3D media will be able to stream 3D content at 1080p. Normally, content viewed in 3D is cut in half (pattern retarder technology), but having twice the resolution will help increase the format back to 1080p.
