The newest display technology that caught the eye of the world at large is 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels).

DisplaySearch has just made a forecast about TVs equipped with screens of such quality.

Long story short, the number of models shipped this year will be 40 times higher than the level attained in 2012.

Cumulatively, there will be around 2.6 million sent over to customers' homes or offices, or presentation rooms, by the end of the year.

That's quite a bit above the 50 thousand expected of the OLED mini-segment.

Since the total LCD TV shipment figure is expected to be of 237 million, that isn't an insignificant achievement.

237 million was the figure reached in 2012 according to DisplaySearch, but it is believed that the number will stay flat in 2013.
