The 28-inch liquid crystal display has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels

Displays with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, 4K as it were, or ultra high definition, most often come in sizes of 40 inches and above, but Lenovo has just revealed a 28-inch liquid crystal display.

Apparently, the corporation wants to stand out by making something a lot smaller than everything else on the market.

We've seen 4K monitors before, sure enough, but even those measured 30 inches or more. Then again, the ThinkVision Pro2840m Wide isn't altogether new itself.

Well, it is, mostly, but it (or ThinkVision Pro2840m without the "wide" in the name) showed up all the way back at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2014), in January.

The reason the product is making waves now is that shipments are finally starting, and the price of $685 / €500 isn't all that bad. Definitely a lot less than the thousands or tens of thousands demanded by the smallest UHD TVs.

Anyway, the Lenovo ThinkVision Pro2840m Wide uses a pair of HDMi ports, one DisplayPort and/or one mini DisplayPort (1 internal port is MHL compatible) to stream images to that LCD.

The refresh rate is of 60 Hz in case you were wondering. Nothing special there, although lower resolutions should permit higher settings. It would defeat the purpose of buying the thing in the first place though.

Moving on, the response time of 5 ms is pretty standard, as is the adjustable stand and, to an extent, even the USB hub.

Although it's true that Lenovo did go a bit overboard here. Normally, displays don't have more than one USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port, if they have them at all.

They may even settle for two USB 2.0 ports, since they're there just for peripherals (in case you use the monitor as a remote desktop extension of a server-based virtual PC, instead of a real computer).

However, the Lenovo ThinkVision Pro2840m Wide has two USB 2.0 ports and three USB 3.0 ones, with one for the recharging of mobile devices even when the LCD is turned off.

Finally, the maximum display color is 1.07 billion (Adobe RGB color gamut coverage of 72%) and sound is produced by a pair of 3W speakers. Because even if this is a monitor, it should still be able to play video in high visual and audio quality.

Sales of the Lenovo ThinkVision Pro2840m Wide LCD 4K UHD monitor will begin on May 23. You'll be pleased to know that ENERGY STAR 6.0, TCO Display 6.0, TCO Certified Edge 1.2, TUV Green Mark, and EPEAT Gold energy efficiency guidelines have all been met.
