As worrisome as it sounds, it might not be the end of it

4GB DDR3 modules are the ones most often sold, which is why any price rise to them will not be welcomed. Alas, a price cut is precisely what is approaching.

According to DRAMeXchange, contract prices for 4Gb DDR3 modules have already risen by 14.3% in the second half of September. That put them at $32 / €23.58.

Now, it is assumed that the tag will go up again in October, by at least another 10%.

Once again, the fire at SK Hynix' China fab on September 4 is held responsible.

If this prediction proves true, we may be faced with 4GB modules of $35-38 by the time November rolls around. That's €25.8 – €28.

Vendors' overall production of DRAM could be affected by 50% by the time the aftereffects of the fire blow over. Thus, we may have to cope with further price increases this year.
