4G LTE Issues Hit Verizon, Galaxy Nexus Delayed Again

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has fired up its LTE network in the United States a year ago, but it seems that a series of issues that affect many of the company’s customers broke the party early.

Some of the carrier’s 4G LTE customers reported they were unable to access the service, and the issue was signaled in more than a single market. However, not all users were affected by this.

The wireless operator issued a statement several hours ago, saying that it was working on resolving the issues, while also adding that only the 4G service was affected. Users were still able to use the carrier’s 3G network.

“Verizon Wireless engineers have been working to resolve an issue with 4GLTE service that is affecting some customers’ 4G devices. 3G data and voice devices are unaffected. All customers’ voice calls and text messages continue to go through,” Verizon said to Droid-life.

“In the past 24 hours, some 4GLTE customers have reported their devices are operating on 3G data service where they would normally get 4G. Some have reported no issues, others that data access is either intermittent or unavailable. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Apparently, the network is already up and running in some of the affected areas, and chances are that Verizon actually managed to restore it nationwide.

The bad news, however, is that the said issues might have determined the carrier to push back the release of Galaxy Nexus, at least this is what some of the latest news on the matter suggest.

Droid-life notes that various sources have been saying lately that the carrier has decided not to launch the Ice Cream Sandwich device on December 9th, as previous reports suggested.

No specific info on what determined the carrier to make this move emerged, but chances are that the aforementioned problems with the 4G LTE network were the cause of this.

The news site has an Equipment Guide screenshot to prove that something has changed. Leaked screenshots that emerged only yesterday showed the Galaxy Nexus set for a December 9th launch, but the device is now slapped with the “coming soon” tag.

Nothing has been officially confirmed on this, and one of our readers even said that a Verizon store accepted a Galaxy Nexus reservation, with plans to have it picked up on Friday. Hopefully, the device will arrive this week, and enthusiasts won’t have to wait even more for it.

The new rumored release date is December 13th for the Galaxy Nexus at Verizon, almost a month after it was made available in other markets around the world.

Just release the thing, there will be problems with a new device anyway. This waiting is doing nothing but turning new customers away & irritating existing customers that have been waiting to upgrade....like me!

If the 4G network issue is the reason for the delay why hasn't Verizon halted the sale of all it's other 4G devices. My local store is still selling all the other 4G phones - just not the GN. Makes you wonder what Big Red's motive truly is, don't you think?

Unless Verizon does a press release and officially confirm an actual release date December 13th may be another rumored release date. Just because it popped up doesn't mean it isn't subject to change. Who would want a Nexus who has 4g coverage and have it not work. Having it delayed another week (just my opinion only) is for the better.

Too many RUMORED release dates. I am in software development so I understand delayed releases but Verizon is not handling it well by a lack of communication. I think the public would be a lot more understanding if Verizon were to share reasons for it being delayed.

Twenty minutes ago I went to a Verizon store and the manager told me that they have the phones and the release date is still tomorrow. She asked me if I wanted her to call me when I could come and get it.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they couldn't tell me when the release date was. Today (12/8) was told by a Samsung representative, who was at my office with the entire line of products (including the Nexus), that the date was December 15.

Looks like that manager in uninformed. My guy at V called me yesterday saying it would be delayed with no exact date. They do have them in stock. I stopped by today to play with it and it looks very nice. I agree V doesn't handle PR very well. Thye treat us like mushrooms, keeping us in the dark and feeding us * .

Somewhere, someone is lying. I have been to 4 different stores in Mesa, AZ and they all have the phone but have told not to release until further communication. None will be releasing tomorrow

I just spoke to a Verizon rep and he said it definitely is not releasing tomorrow.

I think Verizon totally dropped the ball on this release. I really wish they would pull their head of their collective arses and release the phone already. Its available all over Europe and now North of the border and we are still sitting here holding our crotches. WTF. Getting pretty * at this point.

LOL... so now the excuse is LTE problems? Are they pulling sales of all thier 4g phones? No.. just more useless information. Its the freaking Bionic all over again. What in the world was google thinking giving verizon the exclusive? They can (and are) screwing up a wet dream.

Don't worry. There will be another troll, rumor, or "leak" in the next day or two that will get your hopes up only to disappoint everyone when Verizon doesn't deliver on the "confirmed" release date.

Every leak/rumor has been wrong so far. Why does everyone keep buying into them?

Nexus stock was in store last night-I held one. Went to pick it up today, and I was told, "Next Friday..."
