The next-generation BlackBerry Torch should become available for purchase at AT&T as soon as August 21st, the wireless carrier has just confirmed.

The smartphone, none other than the 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810 that was unveiled in early August, comes to the market with a price tag of $49.99 with the signing of a new two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, AT&T confirmed.

It sports the same form factor as the original BlackBerry Torch smartphone that was launched on shelves at AT&T last year in summer, but packs enhanced hardware specs and improved capabilities courtesy of its new BlackBerry 7 OS.

According to AT&T, the next-generation 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810, exclusive to its customers, should provide users both with a increased performance capabilities, as well as with an improved multimedia experience.

The new device runs under the BlackBerry 7 OS, which comes with a series of UI enhancements and with more fluid graphics, HD video recording, and with augmented reality capabilities.

Along with a faster application processor when compared to the previous flavor for Torch, the new mobile phone also comes with improved connectivity capabilities, thus the 4G part in its name.

“The new 4G BlackBerry Torch 9810 smartphone boasts significant hardware improvements including a 1.2GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera with HD 720p video recording, 8 gigabytes of onboard storage and a high resolution, 3.2-inch touch display,” the wireless carrier announced.

The touchscreen display on BlackBerry Torch 9810 is powered by BlackBerry Liquid Graphics technology, which should translate into a fast and responsive visual experience.

In addition to the second sliding smartphone model in RIM's lineup, AT&T is also set to launch the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860 smartphones with 4G connectivity in the near future.

“From being the first carrier to offer the BlackBerry solution in 1999 to the broadest lineup of 4G-capable BlackBerry smartphones this year, we’ll continue to offer our customers the leading BlackBerry portfolio in the U.S,” Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, stated.
