4chan.org, the popular image-based bulletin board, was temporarily shut down after it was hit by a massive distributed denial of service attack.

Their status site announced on November 13 of a shutdown caused by a large DDoS attack. Two days later the website was still down.

“Site continues to be down due to a DDoS attack, consisting of a TCP SYN flood on port 80,” wrote a message on the status page.

Today, November 16, they finally announced that the website was back online.

It's a funny thing that 4chan is attacked in this way for the second time this year, especially since Anonymous volunteers were reportedly recruited from their boards for the DDoS attacks carried out by the collective against PayPal, Visa and MasterCard last year.
