A man died during the 49ers – Green Bay Packers game on Sunday, September 7. The unidentified man was allegedly intoxicated before the deadly fall.

KTVU details that he has fallen from an elevated walkway used for pedestrian traffic at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

San Francisco police spokesman Gordon Shyy explains that the 49ers fan has dived from the Jamestown walkway.

"Alcohol may have been a factor, but the toxicology report would tell for sure," Shyy tells Mercury News.

The fall has been witnessed by several sports fans. NFL relays a statement by 49ers reps, who express their condolences over the fan's demise.

"The San Francisco 49ers learned that there was a fatal accident outside of Candlestick Park prior to today's game. We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time," a spokesperson has stated.

The fan plunged to his death at 1:30 p.m., just after kickoff. The game carried on and the 49ers reported a 34-28 win over the Packers.

Off-duty medical staff treated the male victim after the crash, an effort supported by police officers at the game. When EMTs arrived, he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Officials are keeping mum about the man's identity, until his family are notified. He has been described as a man in his 30s.

He fell on a sidewalk and incurred critical injuries as a result of the fall. There was no information on whether or not he was suffering from an underlying condition.
