49 cellphones have been seized following paralympian Oscar Pistorius' arrest for the murder of his girlfriend on Valentine's Day.

The mobile phones were taken off police officers after the athlete was brought in, The Herald writes. Lead detective on the case Hilton Botha has seized four police issued phones and 45 personal mobiles in an effort to avoid leaks to the press.

Botha tells the press that local news outlets have offered R5000 ($550 / €415) to R10,000 ($1,100 / €830) per item to get their hands on the photos.

He also claims to have been offered R458,000 ($50,100 / €38,000) for a shot of the toilet door that Steenkamp has been shot through.

"I decided at that point that all pictures should be sent off to forensics immediately. That way we had no pictures and there could be no leak,” he says.

As I have detailed before, Botha himself is a suspect in a multiple murder, and his loss in credibility has brought to light other information on how the investigation has been carried on.

Meanwhile, Pistorius has been spotted out on the town this weekend, reportedly drinking with friends and engaging in flirting.
