This past weekend, a middle-age couple tied the knot in a ceremony held in a remote village in France. Under any other circumstances, this wedding would not have made headlines. More so seeing how neither of the lovebirds is a celebrity.

However, there is one very important detail that makes this wedding ceremony unlike any of the other thus far organized in this country. In a nutshell, the woman that the groom married was his stepmother until not very long ago.

An unusual love story

According to Metro, Eric Holder met Elisabeth Lorentz while the latter was seeing his father. For a while, the two were stepson and stepmother. However, they eventually fell in love with one another.

Shortly after she started romancing Eric Holder, Elisabeth Lorentz came clean about the entire affair to her then-husband. One can only assume that Mr. Lorentz was quite surprised to hear his wife had fallen head over heels for his son.

Mr. Lorentz and Elisabeth soon filed for divorce and parted ways. However, the woman was not yet free to marry Eric Holder. This is because French laws make it illegal for men to marry their former stepmothers.

It is understood that, hoping to solve this hiccup, the couple addressed President Francois Hollande in a letter. However, they were told that, because Elisabeth had already been married to Eric's father, they were not legally allowed to tie the knot.

45-year-old Eric Holder and 48-year-old Elisabeth Lorentz decided to address a court of law, and a judge eventually agreed to make an exception and granted them permission to get married. The ceremony was celebrated this past Sunday.

Eric had his father's blessing

This might come as a bit of a shock to some people, but as it turns out, Eric's father and Elisabeth's former husband is not in the least upset with either of them. On the contrary, media reports say that he not only gave the newlyweds his blessing, but also attended the wedding ceremony in the village of Dabo.

Thus, Eric Holder's father was among the dozens of guests that gathered on Sunday to wish the couple all the best and to celebrate their victory over France's legal system. Besides, word has it that Mr. Lorentz supported the two since the beginning of their relationship.

Following the wedding ceremony, the bride agreed to sit for an interview with the press and said that, contrary to what some might assume, there were plenty of people struggling with the same problems she and Eric were faced with when they decided to tie the knot.

“At last, it's the big day! I simply hope that our story will be useful for other couples in our situation, because I know there are some,” the 48-year-old bride told the press.
