Microsoft is still struggling to move all users from Windows XP to a newer version of the operating system, but only a few companies and end users around the world actually seem to get the message.

According to AppSense, a Microsoft Gold Partner that provides user virtualization solutions, 45 percent of the organizations are still running Windows XP, even though it’s pretty clear that sticking to the soon-to-be 12-year-old operating system might expose their data.

Microsoft has announced that it would stop providing Windows XP workstations with patches and security updates as of April 8, 2014, so everybody needs to move to Windows 7 or Windows 8 as soon as possible.

At this point, Windows XP is the second most popular operating system in the world, with Net Applications data revealing that it still has a 38 percent market share. Windows 7 obviously tops the rankings with nearly 45 percent.
