Apple seems to have caught the big fish this time. The number of people who declare their intention on buying an iPhone is not out of the ordinary. Still, the company figures that their first handset will prove to be an unexpected success.

There could be no other reason than confidence in the future of the iPhone coming from Apple. Even more, the device has been discussed in media as being a marvel device which will revolutionize the mobile phone concept. Such a high interest could only lead to a great amount of iPhone units to be sold.

Apple has already prepared for the release that will take place on the 29th of June a first stock of 3 million iPhones ready for sale. Even more, analysts predict that an average of 45 million such smartphones will be sold by year 2009.

We don't know how they have come up with this exact number, but the source of their predictions is a very clear one. They consider that Apple's revenue growth will reach its peak in year 2009. "Apple's iPhone revenue and associated COGS will be recognized ratably over a 24-month period. This will smooth out the revenue impact of iPhone unit sales, but we do expect Street focus will continue to be on iPhone units and 'booked' revenue", said Piper Jaffray senior analyst.

The main drawback about the iPhone and also the reason which will lead in lower sales rates is actually its price. The iPhone sells for USD 500 for the 4GB version and USD600 for the 8GB one.

The reverse side of this high price might turn up to be that of placing this smartphone in the line of luxury high-tech devices. This could mean that many people will rather sacrifice a large sum of money for purchasing this statement mobile phone, despite its high cost.
