A recent survey completed by Gallup, Inc. revealed that, at least in this day and age, marijuana is quite popular among guys and gals living in the US.

The company says that, of the people surveyed, an impressive 44% admitted to having tried marijuana at some point in their life. What's more, 11% confessed to being regular users.

The figures are all the more interesting seeing how, when a similar survey was carried out back in 1969, merely 4% admitted to trying marijuana.

Besides, Gallup, Inc. says that, in another survey in 2013, the percentage of regular marijuana users was documented to be one of just 7%, considerably less than the figure recorded this year.

“44% of Americans say they have tried marijuana. This is the highest percentage Gallup has found since it began asking the question in 1969,” the company writes in a statement.

“A separate question asks Americans more directly if they smoke marijuana now. Slightly more than one in 10 Americans (11%) say they do, up from 7% in 2013,” it adds.

What is yet to be determined is whether this apparent boost in the popularity of marijuana in the US is due to the fact that more people have access to the drug and are willing to try it, or if maybe it all comes down to folks becoming more open about their smoking habits.

The same survey revealed that, at least in the US, pot smoking is more common among men than among women. Again, this might be simply because men are more willing to admit to using marijuana.
