Many women go on diets before the summer season, knowing all too well they will have to break out the bathing suit, which means they have to look their best. Madelyn Sheaffer from Missouri lost about 100 pounds (45.3 kg) before taking out a two-piece to a local water park.

Proud as she was of finally showing off her weight loss on the family outing, she did not get the chance to have her day in the sun because she was told to either cover up or leave.

In the video below, Madelyn details her bad experience at the water park, saying she still can’t understand why she’d be asked to cover up, when every other woman there was wearing similar swimsuits.

“I just felt like I was singled out. I felt like it was both age and body discrimination and I felt like I could look around me and I could see a handful of other girls half my age, wearing the same size swimming suit and not being singled out and told to put on clothes or leave,” she says.

She also discussed the incident on her Facebook, the Daily Mail reports, saying that even the cops asked to escort her out sympathized with her even though there was nothing they could do to make it better.

“‘We can't actually say anything,’ they said as we walked outside, ‘but I hope from the expressions on our face you can tell how we feel.’ They were compassionate. They too, thought it was ridiculous,” she writes.

Madelyn believes she was singled out because she looked good in her swimsuit and, admittedly, pool staff considered no woman at her age should do that.

“This was not a thong. It was a standard, summertime, two piece, string bikini. The same as everyone else, who felt confident enough in their body to wear one,” she says.

“I am a 43-year-old woman who did not have the confidence, or the body, to put on a bikini until was [sic] 40 years old. I will not be discriminated against because I look too good in one,” Madelyn adds.

She doesn’t say if she plans to sue but, considering the attention she’s been getting, it seems like a very probable option.
