Free souvenirs from an Apple store

How do you get an iPod? Well, most of us would go to an Apple store or a supermarket that sells such devices and grab the one we like, even use an online store to get such a player, or in some cases, get one from somebody selling his or hers. Ouch, it seems I forgot something! What could that be... you have to pay what you get, it's just as simple as that! Get an iPod, pay for an iPod; get two iPods, pay for two... but what about getting 42 iPods?

It seems that some really funny people thought that when you get over 40 iPods, they come for free, so they just walked out of an Apple store with a plexiglas case containing 42 of them! Where did this happen? Well, the location is 29th Street Mall Apple Store in Boulder, Colorado. The iPods were 2G nanos, and the loss is estimated at 8,705$. The employees of the store said to the police that a 2-fot-by-2-foot plexiglas display case that was located on a table, roughly 10 feet away from the front door of the store, vanished around 5PM on the 9th of January.

The case that disappeared had 42 of the new 4GB nano models and had about 30 pounds in weight. Since it's vanished without a trace, maybe I am going to find it at my door this night, who knows? There was one Philadelphia Experiment (or was it not?), why not an "iPod Boulder Experiment" now?

After all, just think about the facts - a case with products worth over 8,000$ disappears from a store, the employees didn't notice anything suspicious in the day of the disappearance, and while the stolen iPods had serial numbers, none have been recorded before the theft.

Obviously, the policemen don't have any suspects to track down, but I suggest the store managers to track down their employees from now on. You get such a case inside, you register the entry, place some security sensors inside, then you go home. How hard can this be? Well, I am not a store manager, but I guess that some things are as simple as possible; unlike what we should call "iPod 42" from now on (there was once a "Flight 19", if you remember that notorious 1945 incident in the Bermuda Triangle)!
