This is just part of a scheme that's designed to trick users into handing over money

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2013 is taking place these days in England and Wales and, as with most major events, cybercriminals are leveraging the occasion in one of their scam campaigns.

Symantec experts have spotted scam emails that purport to come from the ICC.

“International Cricket Council. Open attached file for your acknowledgement,” the emails read.

The .doc file attached to the notifications informs recipients that they’ve won a Toyota Camry Solara car in a raffle.

Victims are instructed to respond to the emails and provide their name, phone number, address and occupation.

Of course, this is just the first phase of the scam. Next, the scammers ask victims to give them some money that’s allegedly needed to complete the transfer of the prize.

Beware of such scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
