Crooks try to convince users to pay a fee or help them to launder money

Another lottery scam has been making the rounds since March 1. This time, crooks send out spam emails informing recipients they’ve won £1 million ($1.5 million / 1.15 million EUR) in the Nokia 2013 New Year Draw.

“Your Email ID has Won £1,000,000.00 UK POUNDS in this Years NOKIA 2013 NEW YEAR DRAW, Held on March 01, 2013 attached with draw number ‘244’. You are to contact our claims agent Mr. Aurthur Lambert with the below details for claims,” the emails read.

Potential victims are instructed to respond to the email and provide this Mr. Lambert with their name, address, mobile phone number, age and country.

As always, I highly advise against responding to such emails. The crooks will either try to get you involved in a money laundering scam, or they will simply try to trick you into handing over some money that’s allegedly needed to wire you the prize.
