Reports say 28nm chip production is being hampered for some reason or other

Despite how many times TSMC and Globalfoundries come forward to assure everyone that they don't expect problems with the 28nm technology, rumors and reports are emerging about it anyway.

In fact, the latest such report says that yield issues and defect densities are already being run into.

This doesn't really fit with how TSMC, at least, has said that there will not be a history repeat.

Nonetheless, the 40nm problems got a lot of attention and, since smaller technologies always involve more work, it was to be expected that speculations, at least, would arise on the matter.

Naturally, no one actually hopes to see history repeat itself, since no one stands to gain from it, especially not the foundries and their clients (AMD and NVIDIA).

At least the performance is advertised as distinctly superior to 40nm (45% faster at best, apparently).
