A 4-year-old boy has come across what could be a contender for the biggest maple leaf in the world, in the small town of Mount Vernon in Washington.

Tommy Lindsey found the giant leaf, about as big as half oh his body is, when he was walking with his family on a remote wooded road.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports that the leaf is a bit shorter than that currently holding the Guinness World Record.

However, it is wider, so Tommy is a winner nonetheless. His leaf measures about two feet (60 cm) from stem to tip.

It is 21.19 inches (54 cm) wide and 14.75 inches (37.5 cm) tall. The stem alone is 13.75 inches (35 cm) long.

Guinness informed that the world's largest maple leaf was discovered in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The find was made on 14 December 2010.
