Following his studying fossil evidence unearthed in China, University of Alberta paleontology graduate student Scott Persons came to understand that a 4-winged early flying dinosaur named Microraptor had a rather diverse diet.

Thus, this dinosaur ate not just various species of birds and small mammals, but also fish, EurekAlert informs us.

By the looks of it, the Microraptor's anatomy and hunting skills made it possible for it to hunt fish and feed on them.

These claims are based on the fact that fish was found inside the stomach of the Microraptor remains discovered in China.

“We were very fortunate that this Microraptor was found in volcanic ash and its stomach content of fish was easily identified,” Scott Persons said.

“Now we know that Microraptor operated in varied terrain and had a varied diet. It took advantage of a variety of prey in the wet, forested environment that was China during the early Cretaceous period, 120 million years ago,” he went on to argue.

Scott Person's research is the first to document a flying raptor's ability to prey on fish.
