HP and Microsoft plan to offer customers no less than four converged application appliances in 2011, the Redmond company revealed.

Blending applications, infrastructure and productivity tools, the new systems will be introduced throughout this year, with the first solution available today.

Customers can already buy the HP Business Decision Appliance. Offered by HP and HP/Microsoft Frontline channel partners, the appliance costs $28,000, and sports no less than three years of HP 24x7 hardware and software support services.

According to Microsoft, the licenses for both SQL Server 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 will need to be acquired separately. The software giant praised the appliance for allowing customers to deploy a complete business intelligence solution in less than one hour.

“Customers are looking to significantly reduce implementation and decision times,” revealed Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager, Industry Standard Servers and Software, HP.

“With our converged application appliances, HP and Microsoft enable customers to shorten the time required to deliver information, which helps to reduce risk and cost.”

Also already available is the HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance which also comes with HP 24x7 hardware and software support services.

The price tag for the HP Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance starts at around $2 million, but companies buying the solution will also need to factor in additional costs for SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse.

Additional offerings will be introduced later this year, namely the HP E5000 Messaging System in March starting at $36,000 plus the Exchange Server 2010 licenses; the HP Business Data Warehouse Appliance in June, and the HP Database Consolidation Appliance in the second half of 2011.

“Microsoft and HP are helping IT professionals fight their biggest foes — time and complexity,” added Ted Kummert, senior vice president, Business Platform Division, Server and Tools Business, Microsoft. “With these appliances, we’re helping to put critical business information in our customers’ hands when they need it.”
